Today, Providence Rest, located on eight acres in the residential community of Country Club in the Bronx overlooking the Eastchester Bay, is a 200-bed skilled nursing facility that provides comprehensive, high quality compassionate care to women and men. Through the years, the Sisters of St. John the Baptist, founded by Blessed Alfonso Maria Fusco, who own and operate the Nursing Home, have continually strived to enhance the residents' quality of life. As a result, a comprehensive range of programs and services are now offered, that include: Long-term Care Program, Short-term Rehabilitation and Transitional Care, Respite Care, Hospice Care, Sub-acute Services, Alzheimers' Programs and an Adult Day Health Care Program. In Addition, the Sisters sponsors an on-site Child Day Care Learning Center that provides quality child care and education for 22 children, ages from three to five years, along with intergenerational interaction and enrichment for the elderly residents. Since its inception the program has become a powerful learning tool in creating friendships and understanding between generations, and has provided a special opportunity of growth for both young and old alike. Providence Rest is truly no longer exclusively a long-term care facility. The Nursing Home's diverse aging population, particularly the growing number of residents with complex medical problems and debilitating illness, increasingly incompatible with our outdated physical plant. On October 30, 2007 the Sisters of St. John the Baptist, joined by church, state and local officials, dedicated their new building. This new construction, a 120-bed wing, is the first phase of a three-phases, $40 million construction, renovation and modernization project. Phase II, which is currently underway, involves the renovation of the Pope Pavilion. When completed, this wing will house 80 residents, most of whom will have their own private rooms. During the final phase of the project, the oldest section of the Home, the Generoso Pope Memorial Building, will be transformed from resident living space to amenity areas, to include a beauty parlor, gift shop, indoor/outdoor cafe, expanded lobby and administrative offices.
