bullet Daily Mass Schedule     ||           C.S.JB. American Providence

he Sisters of St. John the Baptist, sponsors of Providence Rest, have their quarters in the red brick building to the far right of the Nursing Home:  the Providence Rest Convent.  There are presently seventeen Sisters living in the Convent that we call home.  Some work in the Home or the Child Day Care center and others are retired or semi-retired and manage to volunteer when needed.

Since Providence Rest was first established to the present, many great and holy women have lived and worked in this mission.  Throughout these years, those valiant women that came before us were responsible for leaving us the legacy we enjoy today.  Beautiful well cared for buildings, as well as flowers, shrubs and trees that bloom according to the season adorn our property.  Even the landings was done with much forethought and planning.  The view of Eastchester Bay is spectacular and breathtaking!  All of these blessings from God are a daily source of peace and hope to our residents.  Some of you may remember those Sisters that were instrumental in giving us what we have today.  Sisters Gabriel Marino, Gabriel Appicella, Umile D'Andrea, Vitalina Rango, Benedetta Saulo and many, many more.  Through the years more than one hundred twenty five Sisters have worked and served God's people here.

The Baptistines who presently work in this mission to the elderly follow the norms laid down by our Founder, Blessed Alfonso Maria Fusco.  Every Baptistine begins her day with quiet time in prayer either in our chapel or in the privacy of her own room.  We meet each morning in chapel for the recitation of the Divine Office and the holy Mass, followed by breakfast together in our convent dining room.  Because of our busy schedules, spending time together at meals proves difficult, but we all make the effort to be there since there is little time to enjoy one another's company most of the day.

At the end of the workday we meet for recitation of the evening office followed by supper.  The evenings are more or less free to use as we wish.  either praying, relaxing, reading, or watching TV.  Of course on certain evenings there are meetings to attend or work to be done in preparation for the next day or community commitments.

On the first Sunday of each month, we have a day of retreat.  It is a time to come away from the hustle and bustle of our lives and to give nourishment to our spiritual life.  On these days we have time for private prayer, common prayer, a conference, and benediction.

In our faithfulness to our prayer life we recognize that the effectiveness of our activities in the apostolate, depends upon the help of God and the unity in prayer and action of the Sisters according to the Spirit of our Founder.
